An update on ICW's "Meet the Candidates"

Wellington Central Candidates - responses to questions on earthquake-prone building (EQBP) legislation and insurance issues facing apartment owners

ICW and Victoria University Students Association co-hosted a candidates meeting on 15 September 2023 and attendees heard from Greens, Labour, National, NZ First and The Opportunities Party candidates.

Candidates were sent background information on the Earthquake-Prone Buildings (EQPB) and insurance issues along with three questions.

This document provides the background information and their responses based on notes taken at the meeting.

We omitted to ask for an explicit Yes / No response to the questions on the night. Candidates were given an opportunity to provide an explicit Yes or No answer to the questions and to review/amend their comments in the attached document.

One candidate was able to respond by the deadline so we could get the responses out prior to early voting starting on 2 October.

ICW will engage with the new MP for Wellington Central post 14 October to continue to raise these issues with the next Government.
