Labour MP Paul Eagle to contest Wellington mayoralty

Rongotai Labour MP Paul Eagle will contest the Wellington mayoralty at the council elections this year.

It is a run starting on Monday which, if successful, will trigger the second by-election of his political career but also earn him a spot in history as the capital’s first Māori mayor.

In an exclusive interview on Sunday, Eagle confirmed he would be running – even if his intentions have been an open secret for months.
