Te Ara Nui o Te Rangihaeata (Transmission Gully) opens tomorrow (Thu 31 March)

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has officially declared open the Transmission Gully motorway, while the road has been named Te Ara Nui o Te Rangihaeata. Dignitaries were welcomed to the opening ceremony with a pōwhiri at Paekākāriki this morning (30 March)

Cars driving along the neighbouring State Highway 59 tooted as they went past, while Waka Kotahi estimated around 200 people were at the ceremony.

However, motorists won’t be able to drive on the new road until Thursday (31 March)
