Art in the city - opening soon "Hilma af Klint: The Secret Paintings" (from Sat 4 Dec)

The City Gallery is preparing to open its latest exhibition “Hilma af Klint: The Secret Paintings” this Saturday (4 Dec). It runs until 27 March 2022.

The challenging logistics of transporting the “128 af Klint paintings, works on paper and notebooks works” to our little corner of the world are the subject of the Stuff story “How Wellington's City Gallery moved the giant works of Hilma af Klint to Aotearoa”.

From the story:

City Gallery used a digital courier which handled transport, palletisation, loading onto the plane from Sydney and unloading them in New Zealand. Each bespoke crate (padded and reinforced to minimise vibration) and travelling frame for the works was custom-made for security and insulation during transport. When in Wellington, the installation itself took two weeks following a two-week gallery preparation period.
